Privacy Policy

Last updated October 3, 2026Meal Hookup is run by SciCoTherapy Labs LLC. This explains what we collect, who can see it, and what you can do about it. We collect only what the app needs to work, plus anonymous usage counts that show us what's working and what isn't. We don't sell your information, show ads, or use advertising trackers. Your phone number is only used to log you in. It's never shown to other members or shared with anyone, except the service that texts you your login codes.

What we collect

  • Your account: nickname, mobile number, where you work, the area you work in, and who invited you. We don't ask for your email or a password.
  • Your meals: what they are, descriptions, when they're available, and the address or map spot where you'd trade.
  • Your activity: swap proposals, chat messages, ratings, invites you create, which days your meals are up, and your reminder settings.
  • Notifications: if you turn them on, the delivery address your browser or phone gives us for sending them.
  • Anonymous usage: which screens get opened, which steps get used (for example, that someone posted a dessert or finished signing up), how quickly pages load, when a page runs into an error, and whether it's on a phone or a computer and opened from the home screen. These counts never include your nickname, phone number, workplace, area, meal titles or descriptions, messages or location. To count how many different people visit without logging in, our server turns the visitor's IP address and browser type into a one-way code that changes every day; the address itself isn't stored or sent anywhere, and visits on different days can't be connected.
  • Waitlist: if you join it, your email or your Instagram, TikTok or X handle (whichever you give us), your ZIP code and the city and state it belongs to, and your name if you give it. We use them only to let you know when we launch near you.
We keep you logged in with a single cookie. The app also remembers a couple of small preferences on your device, like whether you dismissed the notifications prompt. Usage counting doesn't add any cookies or other storage on your device.

Who can see what

  • Everyone signed in: your nickname, rating, and meals that are up for trade, including where you work and the meal's location on the map.
  • Your swap partner: the messages in your swap, which only the two of you can see. Other members never get your number or any other way to reach you outside the app.
  • Ratings: the member you rated sees your vote only after they rate you too, or after a few days.
  • The member who invited you can see that you joined, under your nickname.
Your login number is never shown to other members. Please don't put your real name in your nickname.

Services we use

  • Fly.io hosts the app and its database in the United States.
  • Cloudflare stores backups of the database.
  • Telnyx texts login codes to your mobile number, so it handles your number and the code.
  • TelemetryDeck counts anonymous app usage for us. Our server sends it the counts, so it never gets your IP address, nickname, number, workplace, meals or messages, and it doesn't use cookies.
  • OpenStreetMap supplies the map images, so your browser loads them directly from OpenStreetMap, which sees your IP address. Address searches are sent to OpenStreetMap's search service by our server, not your browser.
  • Apple, Google or Mozilla deliver notifications to your device if you turn them on, so they handle the text of each notification.
We don't share your information with anyone else, except if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a sale or merger of Meal Hookup (in which case this policy would still apply to it).

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from the Account page. We then remove your phone number, where you work, your meals' details and locations, your chat messages, the ratings you received, and your notification settings. To keep your past swap partners' history making sense, we keep the titles of meals you swapped and the swaps themselves, shown as “Deleted member”. Older backup copies that still contain it are kept only for a limited time, then discarded. Anonymous usage counts can't be tied back to you, so there's nothing in them to delete.

Security

Login codes are single use and expire quickly, connections are encrypted, and access to the servers is limited to the people who run Meal Hookup. No system is perfectly secure, so never share a login code with anyone.

Your choices

  • Change your nickname, workplace and area any time on the Account page.
  • Turn notifications and reminders off on the Account page or in your phone's settings.
  • Turn off anonymous usage counting on the Account page. We also skip it for browsers set to send Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track.
  • Email us to ask for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to have it deleted.

Age

Meal Hookup is only for people 18 and older. If you believe someone under 18 has an account, email us and we'll remove it.

Changes

If we change this policy in a significant way, we'll let members know in the app and update the date at the top.
